About the Speaker:

Professor Z. Q. Zhu joined the University of Sheffield in 1988, became a full professor in 2000, and has been Head of the Electrical Machines and Drives (EMD) Research Group since 2008, and currently holds the Royal Academy of Engineering/Siemens Research Chair. The EMD group consists of >120 personnel (including 7 full professors, 6 Senior Lecturer/Lecturers, and >90 PhD students and Post-Doctor Researchers), 6 research centres, and is one of the largest global research groups in the field, particularly well-known for its research on permanent magnet machines and drive systems.

  

Professor Zhu is Academic Director of the Sheffield Siemens Wind Power Research Centre, Director of the Midea Electrical Machines and Drives R&D Centres, and Director of the Sheffield CRRC Electric Drives Technology Research Centre. With 35 years of extensive research experience in the field of electrical machines and controlled systems for applications ranging from automotive through domestic appliance to wind power generation, which are sponsored by the UK government and many global industries, he has authored >1000 refereed journal and conference papers, including >340 papers in IEEE Transactions and IET Proceedings, as well as >100 patents.


About the Speech:

This presentation will start with different machine topologies of permanent magnet machines for various applications, with emphasis on electric vehicles. The focus will be on the current developments and trends, together with worked examples.
